Burlington was founded in the late 1840's because of the need for a depot for North Carolina Railroad Company. The town boomed with new jobs and livelihoods associated with the train station. Today it has a small town vibe and is seeing it's second resurgence of polarity as a place to live. The old train depot is now an outdoor amphitheater which hosts concerts as well as other popular outdoor events. The prestigious, nationally known, private Elon College is just minutes down the road giving the town a young professional feeling. The College provides many jobs and opportunities for locals and re-locators.
Popular attractions in Burlington consist of the City Park which has outdoor recreation, sports fields, dog parks, and the Aquatic Center. At the center is a Dentzel Carousel which is one of the 24 still operating carousels in the country and has been listed on the National Historic Register. During the year the park host dozens of festivals and events which attract communities from all over North Carolina. Burlington is also home to the minor league baseball team the Royals.
Burlington is located in Alamance county between the Triad (Greensboro - Winston Salem - High Point) and the Triangle (Raleigh - Durham - Chapel Hill). This section of North Carolina is highly sought after, though Burlington offers an affordable alternative to cost of living in the bigger cities.
